A short drive or flight south from Nairobi brings you to the Tanzanian border region. The park is compact but dense with wildlife, centering around the seasonal Lake Amboseli and permanent swamps. The circuit includes the dusty dry lake bed and the lush wetlands of Ol Tukai.

Detailed Itinerary

DAY 1 – Arrival and Orientation

Depart Nairobi in the morning for a scenic drive to Amboseli National Park. Arrive at your lodge in time for lunch. The afternoon introduces you to the park’s unique landscape—a contrast of dusty plains and swampy oases. Your first game drive targets the “golden hour” for photography, hoping to catch Kilimanjaro emerging from the clouds as the sun sets.

DAY 2 – The Tusker Experience

Amboseli is famous for its “Tuskers”—elephants with genetic traits for large tusks. We spend the day following these gentle giants, observing complex social structures and matriarchal leadership. Lunch is a picnic at a designated safe site within the park. The afternoon focuses on water birds and hippos in the swamps.

DAY 3 – Cultural & Panoramic Views

Morning drive to Observation Hill, the only point in the park where you can alight from your vehicle. The panoramic view of the swamps and plains below is unmatched. In the afternoon, visit a local community school supported by tourism revenue, offering a chance to engage with local educators and students (school term dependent).

DAY 4 – Conservation in Action

A specialized day focusing on conservation. We visit the periphery of the park to understand human-wildlife conflict mitigation strategies. Enjoy a relaxed afternoon at the lodge pool watching wildlife come to the watering hole, followed by a night game drive (if staying in a private conservancy concession) to spot nocturnal species like bat-eared foxes.

DAY 5 – Departure

An early morning game drive offers one last chance to photograph the mountain clear of clouds. After a hearty breakfast, we begin the return journey to Nairobi or transfer to the nearest airstrip for onward connections, leaving the giants of Amboseli behind in peace.
